I have installed Windows 7 RC 1 on two computers so far. My main work computer and the family computer. Both of the installations were upgrades from Windows 7 Beta.
On my work computer, I ran into issues with the Riverbed client. With the Riverbed client installed, I did not have any network connectivity. I should clarify that, I had connectivity from command line, but no connectivity from applications, like Outlook or Firefox.
I have noticed a few things are working better in Windows 7 RC 1. First, my login script works all the time. In the Windows 7 Beta, when I was on my local LAN, the login script worked as expected. When I was at a remote site, the login script would fail to map my home directory correctly. In Windows 7 RC 1, the login script works as expected whether I am local or remote.
Second, similarly, at home, I have manually mapped a drive to backup my data. In Winodws 7 Beta, I had told the system to save the username and password, but after a reboot, I always had to enter the password for the mapped drive. After the upgrade, Windows 7 RC 1, now automatically allows me access to the drive without having to re-enter the password after a reboot.
Instead of running Windows Explorer, I normally run Xplorer2. I have noticed that in Windows 7 RC 1, I have lost the disk drive tool bar. This is a bit painful as I used to quickly jump from drive to drive using this tool bar. I have found a work around for now.
With the upgrade to Windows 7 RC 1, I decided to re-try my Blue Tooth headset. In Windows 7 Beta, my blue tooth head set would run for 10-15 second and then dead air. If I changed the volume, the head set would start working for another 10-15 seconds and repeat. In Windows 7 RC 1, I had to de-associate the head set and re-associate the head set, this seemed to be required to get the driver installed properly. Once the drive was installed, the head set started to work as expected - I missed using my blue tooth head set. The blue tooth head set was so much more portable and easier to use.
On the family computer, I had installed Check Point's Secure Client to do some remote connectivity testing. During the upgrade process, Microsoft listed the software as something that is incompatable and would uninstall it. The upgrade went without a hitch and when I initially booted Winodws 7 RC 1, Secure Client did not run. I did not think it was an issue and re-installed the software over top, but Secure Client did not run. I started to become worried, but went and de-installed the software and re-installed the software and Secure Client started working as expected.
Like Windows 7 Beta, I am still enjoying the experience of Windows 7. It is a lot better than Windows Vista. I have downloaded the XP virtualization, but have not installed it yet.
