I have been running Windows 7 for about two weeks now and I have to say that I really like it, even better than Vista. What I really liked about Vista was the start button, press start or Ctrl-Esc and start typing and Windows would find the program that you were looking for, simple, easy, I could not go back to XP after getting used to it.
Windows 7 has the Vista start button and a lot more. First off, there is no more quick start, which I liked for launching my favorite programs. Windows 7 has replaced the quick start with "pinning", you can right click on any running program and "pin" it to the program bar. Once pinned, the program will always show up on the program bar even when the program is not running.
To expand upon the program bar, Windows 7 allows you to hold the mouse over a running program in the program bar and Windows 7 will show you a preview of the running windows and if you move your mouse into the preview, all the other windows will disappear and only your window will be shown. I did not know how helpful this was until I had to use somebody's XP over a web session and had three of the same program running and had a hard time finding the right window.
Windows 7 is not without its problems. The most annoying problem for me is that my Bluetooth headset does not work. In Vista the headset worked just find, in Windows 7, I can start a conversation, but after 10-15 seconds, the conversation ends. Not good.
The other issue that I have run across in Windows 7 is the stability, not that Windows 7 crashes, but that some things are not as stable as I would expect. For example, I normally suspend my notebook when I am done for the day and sometimes the system will not suspend, or may not resume. A simple reboot, and everything is fine, but I should not have to do it.
Finally, I have not been able to run anti-virus on my system. I am ok with that, because I do not take many risks, but the longer that I run the system, the more I worry about it. I am about to go back and see if any of the vendors have updated their anti-virus and see if it works now.
Overall, I do not want to go back and hope Microsoft has an update to fix some of my issues.
