Chrome, the New Browser

If pay any attention to the Internet, then I am sure that you have heard of Google's new browser, Chrome.  It is currently only available for Windows right now, but I am sure that it will be available for other platforms very soon.

I loaded it up on my Vista notebook and it seems faster, snapper at rendering web sites, but seems is a subjective measurement.  I do not have any real measurements that tell me if the browser is faster or not.

When comparing Chrome to Firefox, there are a few cool features.  One, you can drag tabs to form new windows and then drag them back to become tabs.  Second, there is a lot of information you can get from the browser, just type Shift+Esc when you are running the browser and you get a little task manager-like program that tells you what Chrome is running.  Also, check out this article about some of the "About" features in Chrome.  You will learn a lot about what the browser is doing in the background.

I have been using Chrome for a few days and I have not decided if I am going to keep it around or not.  I have not made it my default browser yet and that is mainly because I have too much invested in Firefix, too many passwords save, too many pluggins loaded(which may explain why it seems slower than Chrome), too many saved forms filled in, etc.  But, I am going to keep it around and play with it and see where it goes.  It is always interesting to see what Google does.  The introductory book/comic strip was very interesting and a lot of details about what they are doing.

Google is a force on the Interent.  We will see if they are able to build a superior browser.
